The Department
Our clients Employment & Pensions team advises more than 200 registered providers of social housing, as well as an increasing portfolio of corporate clients throughout England and Wales. They provide clear, practical advice across all aspects of employment and pensions law and also support a growing number of individual clients. The team is recognised in both Legal 500 and Chambers.
The Role
Due to continued success, Themis Recruit are seeking a solicitor with 4–5 years’ PQE to join our clients busy and growing team. You will manage your own caseload of contentious and non-contentious employment matters and will have the opportunity to develop a specialist interest alongside a broad employment practice.
We are looking for a technically strong, commercially aware lawyer who can prioritise effectively, build lasting client relationships, and communicate with clarity and confidence.
Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day management of your own caseload
-
Advising on routine HR matters, including misconduct, sickness absence, and grievances
-
Providing TUPE advice and drafting associated documentation
-
Handling Employment Tribunal litigation up to hearing stage, including some telephone advocacy where required
-
Drafting, negotiating and advising on settlement agreements (employer and employee side)
-
Advising on industrial relations and strike action
-
Supporting organisational restructures
-
Conducting due diligence and assisting other teams with people-related elements of projects

Preparing and delivering employment law training to clients
-
Assisting partners on complex or high-value matters as needed
-
Direct client engagement, including managing expectations and deadlines
-
Meeting time recording and billing targets
-
Managing multiple deadlines efficiently across a varied caseload
-
Contributing to marketing and business development activities
Person Specification
Essential:
-
4–5 years’ PQE as an Employment Solicitor (England & Wales)
-
CILEx Lawyers must hold Civil Litigation Practice Rights
-
Strong academic background (2:1 degree or equivalent)
-
Solid and up-to-date knowledge of employment law
-
Ability to prioritise, manage a busy caseload and demonstrate commercial awareness

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Strong technical ability and attention to detail
-
Resilience and determination to secure positive outcomes

Willingness to travel to clients across the UK
Desirable:
-
Knowledge of pensions law, particularly in relation to local authority outsourcing, admission agreements and the Best Value Authorities Staff Transfers (Pensions) Direction 2007

Understanding of the social housing sector

Knowledge of data protection issues, especially employee subject access requests

Experience conducting workplace investigations on behalf of clients
