Themis Recruit is working with a well-established and highly regarded regional law firm seeking a Senior Litigation Solicitor  to join its Gillingham office.

This is a key senior appointment within the litigation team, offering the opportunity to undertake complex, high-quality contentious work while playing an influential role in supervision, strategy, and the continued development of the practice.

The role would suit an experienced Associate or Senior Associate (or equivalent) with strong technical capability, commercial awareness, and the confidence to lead and support others.


The Role

Client Work & Technical Excellence

  • Manage a varied and complex caseload of contentious matters with a high degree of autonomy.

  • Deliver clear, pragmatic, commercially focused advice to clients.

  • Ensure matters are progressed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with professional and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain a profitable caseload in line with agreed billing and financial targets.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in at least two of the following areas:

  • General civil litigation

  • Property litigation

  • Contested probate

  • Employment disputes

  • Insolvency litigation

Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor junior solicitors, trainees, and other lawyers within the team.

  • Act as a senior technical resource and point of escalation.

  • Review work, provide feedback, and support ongoing professional development.

  • Assist with work allocation, capacity planning, recruitment, and retention where appropriate.

Strategic Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with Partners to support the long-term development and resilience of the litigation practice.

  • Contribute to service improvements, systems development, and workflow enhancements.

  • Share knowledge and best practice through training, mentoring, and informal leadership.

  • Participate in internal meetings and relevant firm initiatives.

Business Development

  • Support marketing and networking initiatives.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, referrers, and professional contacts.

  • Contribute to strengthening the firm’s regional profile.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Maintain strong financial control over matters, including billing, WIP, and cash flow.

  • Meet or exceed agreed financial targets.

  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory, file management, and risk management requirements.

  • Uphold high standards of professional and ethical conduct.


Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with current practising rights.

  • Authorised to undertake reserved legal activities under the Legal Services Act 2007.

Experience

  • Ideally 10+ years’ PQE in litigation, though candidates with fewer years will be considered where they can demonstrate equivalent depth of experience and leadership responsibility.

  • Proven experience handling complex litigation matters autonomously.

  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing other lawyers.
