Overview

Themis Recruit are seeking a Senior Associate to join a leading UK-based Projects, Development & Construction team. The practice has a strong reputation advising across real estate, housing & accommodation, property investment, commercial property, education, health, care, sustainability, and renewables sectors. The team also collaborates with technology and private wealth specialists.

This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile, large-scale projects including regeneration schemes, joint ventures, and renewable energy developments. Our lawyers are recognised for their expertise in procurement, construction, development, and complex project documentation, providing commercial and technical advice from inception through delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on all aspects of non-contentious construction, development, and infrastructure projects.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate standard and bespoke construction and development contracts, including JCT, NEC, EPC, EPCM, and multi-party arrangements.

  • Provide risk management advice on live projects, covering payment issues, delays, fire stopping, terminations, and insolvency considerations.

  • Support clients in structuring procurement and contracting strategies to minimise disputes and optimise commercial outcomes.

  • Mentor and supervise junior associates, supporting the development of their skills and knowledge.

  • Contribute to business development initiatives and sector knowledge development.

  • Work on both domestic and international projects in collaboration with trusted international law firms and consultants.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 6+ years PQE in construction law with substantial non-contentious experience.

  • Strong knowledge of standard form contracts (JCT, NEC, FIDIC) and bespoke arrangements, including market commercial expectations.

  • Experience with development, investor, housing, or accommodation sector projects is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex matters, organise files, and handle a varied workload.

  • Proven track record in supervising junior team members and providing effective guidance.

  • Commercially minded, proactive, organised, and able to work collaboratively in a high-performing team.
