About the Role

Our Client, a large local authority, is offering an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced and motivated legal professional to join as Principal Lawyer within their Housing and Civil Litigation Team. This is a pivotal role within one of the country’s leading shared local authority legal practices, providing legal services to several London boroughs and public sector bodies.

As Principal Lawyer, you will be responsible for managing and developing a team of lawyers handling a diverse caseload that includes housing law, civil litigation, and debt recovery. This role offers the chance to help shape the future of public sector law by supporting the professional growth of a talented legal team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, client-focused services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Housing and Civil Litigation Team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.

  • Handle complex legal matters, particularly within housing law and civil litigation.

  • Provide strategic legal advice to senior officers, elected members, and corporate groups.

  • Act as a senior point of contact for client relationships and ensure the delivery of excellent client service.

  • Play an active role in the broader development and leadership of our client.

  • Represent the council at committees and in court when required.

  • Work on-site at the Harrow office 1–2 days per week, with flexibility to attend client offices and courts.

About You

We’re looking for a qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive with:

  • Substantial experience in local authority housing and civil litigation law.

  • Proven leadership and management skills within a legal environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and client-focused approach.

  • A commitment to public service and supporting local communities.

  • The ability to operate effectively in a political environment with senior stakeholders.
