Themis Recruit are currently working with a well-established, nationally recognised claimant law firm seeking an experienced Clinical Negligence lawyer to step into a Principal Lawyer position.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with substantial post-qualification experience and a strong track record in complex clinical negligence litigation. The role combines high-level fee earning with strategic team leadership and operational responsibility.

The Role

As Principal Lawyer, you will lead and develop a specialist Clinical Negligence team, overseeing both strategic direction and day-to-day performance. You will maintain your own caseload of high-value, complex claims while ensuring excellence in supervision, case progression, and client care across the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and mentoring team members, providing strategic input on complex matters

  • Managing a caseload of high-value clinical negligence claims from initial instruction to settlement or trial

  • Handling complex litigation, including ADR, trials, and interlocutory applications

  • Driving financial and operational performance, including billing, forecasting, and cost recovery

  • Advising Trade Unions, their members, and private clients

  • Supporting business development initiatives and enhancing the profile of the clinical negligence offering

The Ideal Candidate

You will be a confident and credible leader with deep technical expertise and a passion for developing others.

The firm is seeking:

  • Extensive experience managing complex clinical negligence claims

  • A proven ability to supervise and develop junior lawyers

  • Strong strategic thinking and commercial awareness

  • Experience overseeing team performance and financial metrics

  • Accreditation with the Law Society, AVMA, or equivalent (desirable)

  • Proficiency in case management systems and legal IT platforms

This role would suit an established senior associate, legal director, or existing principal-level lawyer seeking broader leadership responsibility within a highly respected claimant practice.
