Job Purpose:

Our clients Professional Indemnity team are actively looking for a seasoned lawyer. The team, boasting “leading individuals” recognized by the prestigious ‘Legal500’, specialises in managing claims against various professionals such as engineers, architects, solicitors, accountants, brokers, IFAs, and veterinary surgeons. Additionally, the team is involved in defending these professionals before their respective professional bodies, resulting in a diverse and challenging workload.

 

Key Responsibilities:

As a Legal Professional, you will take charge of managing your caseload, handling Professional Indemnity claims with values up to half a million. These cases will involve a range of professions, presenting the potential to specialise in areas such as construction or other. This is also an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with team partners on high-value, multi-party claims—some reaching multimillion-pound values—that are legally significant or hold substantial importance to our clients.

This role requires significant client interaction, engaging with both professional insureds and their insurers. You will be involved in claims throughout various stages, including the pre-action protocol, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and litigation.

 

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Defendant Professional Indemnity Experience (ideal): Prior experience in handling defendant professional indemnity cases is highly desirable.
  • Commercial Litigation Experience: A background in commercial litigation is essential for this role.
  • Previous Litigation Experience: Demonstrated experience in handling litigation cases.
  • Knowledge and Understanding: Familiarity with the types of disputes managed by the department and the claims handled by the department’s insurer clients.
  • Desire to Work in this Area of Law: Genuine interest and enthusiasm for working in the field of Professional Indemnity law.
  • Excellent Technical and Communication Skills: Strong technical proficiency and effective communication abilities.
  • Prioritization Skills: The ability to prioritize workload efficiently.
  • Written Communication: Proficiency in written communication, including the preparation of succinct and concise reports.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail is crucial for this role.
  • Case Management Systems: Experience working with case management systems.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to navigate major and expensive litigation, involving collaboration with senior claims handlers.
  • Legal Qualification: Required legal qualification as a Solicitor, FILEX, or equivalent.
