Our client, a tier 1 firm known for providing quality legal advice on a range of social housing matters, are seeking a lawyer to join their social housing litigation team. Our client are known to nurture talent at all levels and backgrounds, celebrating what makes people individuals.
The Role:
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced social housing litigation case handler to work closely with some of hiring firm’s largest clients, provide excellent advice, and develop their career. Our clients social housing litigation practice is a thriving and fast-growing part of our business, with opportunities to shape the development of the team, grow their client base, and make a real difference for social housing clients. This role is within the technical claims team in their Nottingham office and involves assisting a Partner/Senior Associate with high-value/technically challenging social housing claims and running your own caseload to include a variety of housing disrepair, statutory nuisance claims, anti-social behaviour claims and injunctions, possession proceedings, and housing-related personal injury claims.
Key Requirements:
- Handling civil litigation claims on behalf of social housing providers
- Tasks to include but not limited to:
- Disclosure
- Witness interviewing
- Drafting pleadings
- Advising clients
- Liaising with experts
- Preparing and/or drafting letters and other correspondence
- Assisting in preparation for hearings (i.e. collating relevant evidence and obtaining statements, preparing bundles etc.)
- Investigating and analysing claims
- Proven ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and ensuring compliance with deadlines
- Conscious concern for quality
- Responsible for liaising with clients
- Carrying out negotiations
- Undertaking legal research
- Drafting instructions to Counsel
- Undertake any other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post
Required Technical Skills:
- Civil litigation case handling experience in a social housing context. Experience in at least one element of social housing litigation is essential.
- Experience in dealing with the claims handling (pre-litigation) aspects of a file as well as being able to progress a claim through the litigation process.
- Experience in dealing with case and financial management systems, although training will be given if required.
- Good familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Good IT skills with the ability to produce own correspondence and documentation.

As part of the Technical Claims team, you would be expected to have the following skills and experience:
- Ability to work on own initiative and have experience of dealing with claims on a proactive basis.
- Effective communicator, able to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues and be able to deal with all levels of communication by telephone, both negotiation and client reporting where appropriate.
- Good organisational skills and be able to manage own time effectively.
- A proactive, professional, and flexible approach to work.
- Able to adopt a common-sense approach with attention to detail, including complying with all relevant client protocols, including the reporting of Management Information.
- Keen to develop over a period of time with a willingness and ability to learn.
