As an Associate Solicitor within our clients Family & Relationships team, you will play a key role in advising clients on a wide range of family law matters, with a particular emphasis on private children work. Working closely with Partners and Senior Associates, you will collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality legal advice and exceptional client service.
This position is ideally suited to a solicitor with 1–4 years’ PQE who is commercially aware, solutions-driven, and keen to contribute to a high-performing, award-winning department. You will have regular client contact and work alongside counsel and other professionals, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism.
The successful candidate will bring experience in both children and financial matters, with a strong focus on children work. You will be confident managing complex, high-net-worth disputes and adept in both litigation and non-court dispute resolution. You will also help strengthen the team through collaboration and support marketing and business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Respond to enquiries from prospective clients and assess case suitability.

Take instructions, prepare retainers, and provide clear and accurate costs information.

Deliver specialist advice across all areas of family law within the department’s remit.

Manage private children law litigation, including case preparation, drafting statements, instructing experts, briefing counsel, and preparing documents for contested hearings in line with the Family Procedure Rules.

Handle cross-border children matters, liaising with ICACU and overseas lawyers, preparing evidence and instructions, and responding effectively to urgent and unpredictable workloads.

Conduct financial remedy cases, including Forms E, questionnaires, draft orders, witness statements, and documentation for contested hearings, FDRs, and interim applications.

Work collaboratively with Partners and Senior Associates on complex cases and complete tasks delegated by senior team members.

Maintain accurate, well-organised files, including thorough attendance notes and time recording.

Prepare narrative bills and close files in accordance with firm procedures.

Ensure full compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct and the Law Society’s professional standards.

Contribute positively to the team and work effectively with colleagues at all levels.

Support marketing and business development activities, including writing articles, recording podcasts, and attending seminars and industry events.
Skills and Qualifications

Qualified solicitor with 1–4 years’ PQE in family law.

Experience in contested proceedings and non-court dispute resolution.

Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills.

Commercially minded with the ability to develop strong client relationships.

Highly organised, collaborative, and solutions-focused.

Familiarity with family law software (e.g., Capitalise, Quantum).

Entrepreneurial mindset with strong networking skills.
