Our client is seeking an Associate to join their leading Marine team, focusing on the management and support of marine insurance claims. This will include claims related to hull, war, marine liability, cargo, mortgagee’s interest insurance, marine cyber, yachts, as well as wet and dry shipping matters. Additionally, the role involves some policy drafting responsibilities.

We are particularly interested in candidates with arbitration experience, especially under LMAA terms, and a strong litigation background.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and assist in handling a variety of marine insurance claims.
  • Draft policies and provide legal advice on marine-related issues.
  • Handle both wet and dry shipping disputes.
  • Contribute to arbitration and litigation processes.
  • Overseas travel may be required.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • UK Qualified Solicitor or CILEX qualified (2-4 years PQE is a guideline but not restrictive).
  • Experience in marine insurance law gained from a recognized shipping law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of arbitration and court procedures, especially under LMAA terms.
  • Client-facing experience and participation in business development activities.
  • Language skills are a plus but not essential.

About the Team: Our clients’ Marine team supports both domestic and international clients on a broad spectrum of marine insurance and shipping matters. Their clients include insurers, shipowners, freight forwarders, ports, charterers, and terminal operators. We handle a wide variety of disputes across marine insurance and shipping, from coverage issues to subrogation, as well as drafting insurance policies and commercial contracts.
