About the Role
Themis Recruit are looking for a motivated Assistant Lawyer (NQ–2 years PQE) to join our clients well-established Healthcare & Sports team, specialising in healthcare claims. You’ll work on a diverse portfolio of medical negligence claims on behalf of private healthcare providers and their insurers, with matters often involving orthopaedics, plastics, dentistry, ophthalmology, and radiology.
This is a great opportunity to build specialist expertise in healthcare litigation within a supportive and collaborative team, with scope to expand into other areas over time.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the London Healthcare & Sports team, your duties will include:

Managing your own caseload under supervision and assisting senior lawyers in progressing claims from instruction to resolution.

Reviewing medical/legal documentation, drafting chronologies, and assessing breach of duty, causation, and quantum.

Preparing high-quality reports and advice to insurer and insured clients.

Liaising with clients, experts, and counsel; instructing experts and obtaining liability reports.

Ensuring compliance with client SLAs, court directions, and billing practices.

Drafting legal documents including court pleadings, instructions to experts, and settlement correspondence.

Managing court timetables, disclosure, witness statement preparation, and expert evidence exchange.

Maintaining up-to-date digital files using internal case management systems (Tracker).

Carrying out legal research and contributing to team knowledge development.

Occasionally supporting client teams on-site, requiring strong interpersonal and client-handling skills.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience:

Legal qualification or equivalent experience in healthcare/clinical negligence litigation (Claimant or Defendant side).

Familiarity with litigation procedures and clinical negligence matters.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively.

Confident, calm under pressure, and comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels.

Team player with a proactive, flexible approach.

Solid IT literacy and digital case management skills.

Genuine interest in medical/legal issues and willingness to learn technical clinical concepts.
Desirable:

Experience in handling or assisting on healthcare or professional indemnity claims.
